You deserve maternity pictures
I know what you’re thinking, do I really want to photos of all this? Swollen ankles, aching back, and no matter how much you glow, at the end of the day you just feel huge. You’re probably also wondering, is it really worth it? I promise you the answer to both of those questions is YES! You deserve maternity pictures, here’s why.
1. You’ve just grown a human! Mama you are amazing.
You have just spent the last 9 months growing a little human inside your body. Mama that is an absolutely amazing feat! You endured the morning sickness, exhaustion, and the awkward “are you pregnant or just fat?” stage. You were the first to feel the little flutters that eventually turned into a hard kick in the ribs. You’ve spent nights lying awake, unable to sleep because there just isn’t a comfortable position. You have sacrificed everything for this little human, literally given your body and soul and that deserves to be celebrated with maternity pictures dedicated to you and that gorgeous belly!
2. This is the end of one journey, and the beginning of another.
Deciding to have a baby is a commitment. It’s not like going to the store and picking out a puppy. First you have to get pregnant, which can take some time, and then you have a 40 week journey ahead of you.
Those first few weeks are spent with slight trepidation, hoping that nothing goes wrong. And then that fateful appointment arrives and suddenly that little thing inside you became a “he” or a “she.” Maybe they even get a name. And then the dreaming really starts in earnest. You buy clothes you just can’t wait to dress them up in. Decorate the nursery just so. Pick out the stuffed animal that will be their best friend until they’re four.
You research and plan and dream and hope and after 9 months that journey is coming to an end. A maternity session is the perfect way to honor that journey and remember the months spent preparing for your little one to arrive.
3. Show your baby how excited you were and the legacy of love they were born into.
Your baby’s story does not begin with the day they are born. It began when you and your husband met, fell in love, on your wedding day, and when you decided you had enough love to add one more to your family. Years from now when you sit down with your baby and tell them the story of their birth, start with your maternity pictures. Point to your belly and tell them “that’s you in there.” Show them how loved they already were, and how excited you both were for their arrival. Document this beautiful part of your journey so your baby always know that they were born into a legacy of love.
4. Last chance to get all dressed up for while.
Between a newborn, the healing, and starting on the journey to feeling like your body is yours again it’s probably going to be a while before you leave the house let alone get all dressed up. Maternity pictures are the perfect excuse to get all dolled up and strut your stuff one last time before you have to find a new normal.
5. It’s about to get real and vulnerable, don’t let another stranger in the room.
As a birth photographer I am always so honored and grateful for the mothers that let me in the delivery room. Labor and delivery is a very vulnerable time for a woman. You’re in pain, in a skimpy hospital gown – privacy doesn’t exist is the delivery room. I understand the trust that you put in me to tell your story in a tasteful, respectful way and promise I do not take it for granted. At such a vulnerable time I don’t want you to have to deal with one more stranger in the room. Maternity pictures are the perfect way to get to you know your photographer before push comes to shove (pun intended).
