I believe love is worth documenting at every stage but 33 year old love is especially precious. These anniversary pictures are of my parents. This is the love that brought me into this world, raised me, and continues to support me everyday.
Okay, I’ll be honest, I had to force my parents to take these anniversary pictures. I didn’t give them a choice because I wanted my daughter to have great pictures of her grandparents and especially of the legacy of love that she comes from. They were really good sports about it.
Through this session I ended up seeing my parents love in a whole new way! They became so giggly and couldn’t stop laughing. Admittedly, at first, it was probably because they felt a little foolish. So I asked them about how they met, what their first impressions of each other were, etc. and they started to focus on each other. Suddenly I felt like I was taking engagement pictures. Their love seemed just as vibrant as if they were newlyweds! And not because I’d never seen it before. They kissed and cuddled in front of us everyday while I was growing up.
This anniversary session has become a special memory for me. A moment I got to share with my parents and literally SEE their love for each other. These pictures help me remember what great love is and that I’ve got one heck of an example. I’m grateful to know that even after 33 years of marriage, love can be just as giddy and fun as day one.
The Location
Because I wanted to document my parents love story it seemed only fitting to take these pictures around the home my parents have lived in for 30 years. Its where I grew up, where they’ve raised 8 children, and where those 8 children have spent hours of our lives weeding on saturday mornings side by side with our parents. To be able to use it as a backdrop for these anniversary pictures made at least some of those hours totally worth it! ?
