Favorite Quotes for January
Quotes have always been a part of my family culture. Once a week we would gather to spend time together as a family and part of that gathering would always be sharing some kind of inspirational quote or message.
This year I would like to share some of my favorites quotes with you each month and what I love about them or why I’m sharing them.
My favorite quotes for January were chosen with resolutions and new beginnings in mind. I hope the inspire you as we enter 2020.
Life isn’t about Waiting for the Storm to Pass, it’s about Learning to Dance in the Rain.
I have always loved this quote because of the potent imagery. It always brings to mind summer afternoons sitting on the porch during a thunderstorm, half wanting to play in the rain and half not wanting to get that soaked. I think we should all play in the rain a little more. Get soaking wet and muddy.
Isn’t that a great metaphor for life. Life is never sunshine all the time. In fact I think most of us probably feel like it rains more than it shines. How boring would it be to sit on the porch waiting for the thunderstorms of life to pass? And what good would it do us? We learn the most during the thunderstorms, we become more as we pass through them.
So don’t wait for the storm to pass. Learn some lessons. Make some friends. Try and try again. Hope and work for sunny days but handle the rain with grace and patience. Dance in the rain.
Good things take time, as they should. We shouldn’t expect good things to happen overnight.
This quote is mostly a self reminder to slow down and have patience with the process. I struggle with wanting immediately feedback and results, I always have. I struggle with the seed planting and waiting for fruit to bloom. But good things, and especially the best things in life take time, and that’s just as it should be.
You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.
Another reminder for me. On the Sunday before Christmas, I found myself sitting in the foyer at church hoping for someone I’m building a friendship with to come talk to me. The thoughts running through my head were arguing that I couldn’t approach her or I might seem needy, annoying, or too eager. Ya… pretty stupid right? So hence was born one of my resolutions for 2020, to make the first move, to go to their corner of the forest, to stop waiting for them to be my friend and instead be theirs.
It is our choices… that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
I couldn’t not throw in a Harry Potter quote… I mean have you met me? I know this one is probably the most well known but that’s because it’s so good, and I felt appropriate for January and new beginnings. A reminder to make the choices that will help us become who and what we want to be and lead us where we really want to go.
God love you no less when you struggle than when you triumph.
And finally a reminder that no matter where you are on your journey, no matter your weaknesses, struggles, vices, and bad habits, your Father in Heaven loves you no less on your worst day than on your best. His love is infinite and eternal, that means unchanging no matter what. There is no distance, no choice, no sin, no trial, no weakness, no struggle great enough to separate you from His love. He is always there waiting for you to reach out to him, so reach out, I promise, from experience, His greatest wish is to envelop you in the arms of His love.
