As a Queen Creek senior portrait photographer, I love helping seniors document this epic milestone in their life. The more senior portrait sessions I’ve done, the more passionate I become that senior portraits should tell your story and serve as a snapshot of who you are right now. As you plan your session, there are a few things to keep in mind to help tell your story; Location, Wardrobe, and Personality.
Location
Location is always an important part of any photo session but especially when it comes to senior portraits. As you plan your session, think of locations that have meaning for you or that have played an important role in your story.
If you’re a dancer, maybe do at least part of your session in the dance studio where you practice 5 days a week. If you play a sport, let’s spend part of your session on your home court or field.
If you’re born and raised in Arizona, showcase that iconic AZ landscape. Or maybe you just moved here and a more neutral backdrop would reflect your high school journey better.
Maybe you’re from out of state and you want to get your pictures in Arizona because it’s as unique and quirky as you!
Whatever you choose, just make sure it’s a reflection of your story and who you are.
Wardrobe
Almost nothing communicates more about who we are at a glance than the clothes we wear and if I know anything about highschoolers, you’ve all got a unique style, and you’re passionate about it! So show it off in your session! I recommend 3 different outfits for your session.
- Graduation gown. If you have your gown please bring it and wear it during your session. I usually have seniors style it open so what you wear underneath is still important! For guys, this usually means a nice shirt and slacks, maybe even a tie. For girls, a cute, cocktail dress.
- Show stopper. This might mean different things to different people but this should be the Wow! outfit. For girls, think long flowy, boho gowns. For guys, think sports coat or leather jacket.
- Elevated school look. Think about wanting to look particularly cute at school and wear that outfit. This honestly ends up being my favorite outfit because your personality shines through and you just come alive!
Which brings me to…
Personality
This is possibly the most important piece of your senior portrait session! Let your personality, whatever it is, shine through. Be funny, goofy, cute, friendly, reserved, whoever you are… just be you! I promise to help put you at ease and laugh through your session so your images reflect your story and exactly who you are right now.
