Telegraph Pass Trailhead Family Pictures | East Valley Photographer
These telegraph pass trailhead family pictures were originally planned as a mama and me session. Hours before we were supposed to meet she asked if her sister, someone who had supported her and her daughter like another parent, could join us and of course I said yes! I’m so glad I did because this session was absolute magic and a perfect celebration of their little family.
How to find the best photo locations
I just moved to East Valley, Arizona and have been searching high a low for my new go to photo locations in this beautiful desert. I have two tips to find the best spots. 1) Anytime you see the word “trailhead”, definitely stop and take a look around. Trailhead’s usually lead to sweeping desert views. And 2) don’t get so caught up in looking for the “perfect location” that you forget the most important part of photography, LIGHT! Never sacrifice good light to get that epic cactus in the background. Focus on finding a generally beautiful backdrop so you can place your clients wherever the light is dreamy.
As an example, the last time I came to this location I walked down the trail and wasn’t finding any good light. The hills were blocking any sunshine and we were in full shade. The pictures still turned out great! But lacked the golden glow I’ve developed my style around. So this time I chased the light. Instead of walking down the trail we walked up a hill where I could still see golden rays of sunshine. I’m so glad I did! It was still beautiful and I got my glow!
